No, lore: Spirit Realms or Shadowlands was sufficient justification for players. In universe it's a combination of people who already knew what to expect versus jade, overall, being sold as a shiny pretty rock by merchants unaware of the spiritual properties, meaning that aside from people who knew what to expect ahead of time few people would be able to get some ready.

I think that if there was some talk of bringing jade prior to gamestart, a lot of people might've heard it and just thought "so bring a lucky charm? gotcha". Which is fair.

I have also headcanon that our communication lines in this timeline are probably quite prone to have the message corrupted between the sender and the person in charge at the end of this long line of people repeating to each other:

Considering it takes a day before rumors come into play in-game, it wouldn't have helped much to spread a rumor about that Day 1... which would then have appeared Day 3 in-game after we've left the city.

EDIT: The meeting was also Early Evening, so wouldn't have given much time for most to go and buy jade after it.
