I feel like glory should have some mechanical benefit other than just recognition.

At times, in some editions, it's had a moderate effect on appropriate social roles, and in theory it should have a nice fluff mechanic of "Dude, you are famous." How well this plays out, depends.

In HT, I tried in the little time I had a chance before he died, to play up the fact that a Glory 10 inquisitor was in the same city as my Tsukai character. His mere presence had her on edge, because he was famous enough for her to just go Ooooooh shit.

Just sort of depends. I forget if we have an actual mechanical benefit in 4e. I usually play low glory characters.

In the game I am co-running after this one, there are events that use Glory as part of the rolling.

There are others that are locked to certain social traits such as Glory and Status.

And, if I recall correctly, there are Techniques that key off of Glory ranks. But I need more coffee, so I might misremember that.

I swore there was at least a Tech or two that did as well but for the life of me couldn't remember and bothered me enough that I went looking! Other than ones that are about not losing Glory for some actions (all those Commerce ones for instance), I don't think they're anywhere close to as common as things keying off Honor or Status, but I did at least find one: Soldier of the Three Man Alliance in Imperial Histories.

Confirmed from Canary -
Bayushi married off screen to a woman. The marriage isn't widely known about other than that it happened.
And Hantei, as I recall, ended up marrying Kinsen post game.

The only one officially unwed at this point is Akodo. (And Fu Fu Chan technically but we're getting to that.)

Canon Bayushi, I am not sure ever wed. I believe that he might have had a minor wedding to someone unimportant, establishing the line of his blood, but most Bayushi were probably adopted into the line. He loved Shosuro/Soshi, but he also loved her as his long lost daughter he never had. Depending on who was writing, he was never 'in love' with her.
