Heavenfall

The coming of night found Doji Kaze with his back to a stone outcropping, his eyes fixed on the supply wagon and his ears sharp for signs of trouble.

Wearing a wide-brimmed strawhat and strawcloak over herself to protect from the light drizzle of rain, Saruko returned to her usual guard shift by the wagon. A nod was given to her fellow watcher, but for now she remained alert and on guard.

The nod was returned with a bow. Kaze watched with his ears, primarily, so the full proprieties could be maintained.

Nanzi stood watch with Jongwun, trying to stay dry and alert.

The rain slowly dripped from his fur lined hat. Yamadono stood as a sentinel, keeping his eyes sharp. The young Matsu was nearby, her polearm drawn as she seemed to take to patrolling. Her cloak was drawn up, her face a mix of determination.

His hands were gripped around the tetsubo, ready to act in case anything foul approached.

EN11 - Keeping Watch over the Supplies (Perception 3, Investigation 3, Notice Emphasis): 6d10ro1o10k3 20

Like the previous couple of nights, Miyako decided to take a night watch position over the supply wagons. Unlike earlier in the day, and like their previous days in the jungle, she wore her armor quite free of the trinkets and other things she would normally decorate herself with, anything she could to to slim down her equipment in the heat that still resonated despite Lady Sun long having finished her journey. With the rainfall starting in the evening, though, this time she donned her straw hat and cloak to keep her face clear of the light pitter-patter of raindrops. Spear in hand and with bow and quiver strapped to the back, she was more focused and sharper-eyed than she had been the previous few nights, perhaps finally getting adjusted to being up and looking about the areas at such a late hour as compared to when she started working the first late-night patrols to protect the campsite and the supply wagons.

She did a few passes around the supply wagon a couple of times, but assuming she found nothing of note that stood out, she would soon find herself close to the fire. The tribeswoman kept her spear close to her and she occasionally looked up and around in different directions to see if there was anything of note, but otherwise she started to spend her time with a piece of parchment and some charcoal, slowly and carefully writing some things out and using her hat and cloak to protect the parchment from the rain and ensure her writings would remain intact.

(Investigation: 35. Way under-rolled it, but I'll call that sufficient...)

"Kaze-kun what do your sharp eyes see?" he said to the man.

"I see the movements of a bushi, Nanzi-sama, Togashi-sama is across from me and Yamadono like a large hill or a small mountain some distance to my right. I hear...the fall of rain, but no movement from outside the perimeter. No danger, yet."

"Such words have you had time to refine more poetry?" He asked.

Ninube gives Yamadono and his daughter a nod right before she seemingly disappears in the night. While she hides well, her view of the surroundings is not quite as good.

Kaze was silent a moment, considering.

"Weight of southern heat
Buries me in the wet dark
Strong arms bear me up.

No warrior more deadly
A quiet smile my equal."

"Doji would be pleased to hear such words," he offered.

"She implied as much before we left, though they had not yet been written." He tilted his head. "I don't suppose she spoke to you of this?"

"She says many things to Nanzi, but he knows simply that she is joyful to see your growth. Faster learner than Nanzi by half," he responded.

"Nanzi's other qualities make up for this slight shortcoming." Kaze's head returned to its upright position.

Hero from the Far Country
Claims his godly bride

Goddess' Warrior-lover,
The Proud Papa of his clan."

"Ever prouder still, how has your injury healed?" he asked of the man.

"Well enough. I was helped by a shugenja. I must say, though, it did not feel like any other wound I have received."

Nanzi frowned and said, "Nanzi hopes it did not damage your soul as well, Kaze-kun."

Kaze had no way to effectively reply to that, so he went for ineffective:

"Whaaa?" His voice executed a perfect ascending glissando on the vowel.

Meanwhile, Saruko was humming to herself to keep the spirits up.

Being on guard in the rain was no fun.
