It's a cool idea, but man, the benefits (8xp?) are just not worth the cost. It is something I definitely feel needs a rework.

Yeah it's why I can only justify it in a character whose story is built around it. Otherwise it really is not worth it. It isn't a 'sure, toss that on them' type disad.

Gah, Momoku... maybe in a very low-roll intensive online game... but man. Ouch. I can layer up ten points of other Disads that are less crippling than its eight.

It's been too long since I played a character with Momoku - but it's a hard one to find the right story to justify such a big loss character wise.

I did a Momoku once. It was full on story reasons, and the experience was so agonizingly unpleasant that I've just openly avoided that kind of story ever again. I get why people would want to, but even going 2 Void was kind of hard to convince myself to do this game. I am an absolute void point and raise addict.

Isn't there a school technique that allows you to spend Void points to reduce damages by 20 (instead of 10) and is technically usable under Momoku?

Or am I just imagining way to make this disadvantage playable?

The Shiba school lets you double the effectiveness of spending Void, but using it that way seems to be dodging any kind of character reason for taking Momoku.

The way Shiba Bushi 1 is worded, you actually get zero benefit from the school, since Momoku shuts off the function it enhances.

Like, you get your free half-strength Guard action, but that's it.

The only school I've made a character for with Momoku is Asahina Shugenja. If you're not able to spend Void to negate wounds, may as well use them to reduce enemy damage by -0k1. Still a pain, but a usable pain.

Yeah, Shiba Bushi can't bypass Momoku, since it's all related to the Void uses found in Book of Earth.

Speaking of which if the oni they're about to face has the Obsidian Hand that would be pretty damn cool. Not saying it will happen - just Obsidian Hand Oni versus Hantei would be a great match.
