Hanzou crept quietly looking for game to hunt or other resources to forage. It seemed like a very promising area.

A long distance away, Hanzou spots an animal moving strangely. He would have to move closer for a better look.

Kinsen was quite worried she had indeed wasted too many resources this morning, and considered Ayumu’s scolding a bit more.

Putting any guilt or ill thoughts aside, she does what she has been trained to do while a young girl during her life at he northern mountains among the komainu: to hunt.

Basket in hand, the Dragon daimyo was foraging in the area, to make sure they wouldn't run low on supplies too soon. It was wise to forage while they still had the opportunity to do so.

She'd probably have better luck with finding something useable later though, as now she was mostly puzzled by mushrooms she'd never seen before. Nadare would probably know which ones are poisonous, and which ones are not...

Eventually, she spotted the animal. And the others.

Even if there was no sun in her eyes, Saruko placed a hand against her brow in hopes that it might make her see better. "It seems to be an animal...?"

There's a certain dog or wolf-like silhouette to it, but it's difficult to tell from so far away. It's little more than a dark, lightly moving blur in the mists that filled the area from the nearby swamps.

Sora spotted the other people converging a split-second after he noted the creature.

Weird swamp. Maybe it wanted a crowd?

He attempted to move stealthily, to get closer to the creature.

Seeing Sora more or less disappear to sneak closer, Saruko figured that hey! She could be pretty sneaksy too! And she was concerned for the animal. Or animal spirit. Maybe it was wounded!

She just wasn't very lucky this time... even a monkey's luck would run out eventually.

Noticing others getting blended with the surroundings to avoid being detected by the creature, Kinsen touches her choker for the third time during this expedition, and, going against her inner instincts, remains true to her discipline.

She walks forward to see what is ahead, uncovered by any shadow.

It takes a few minutes to approach. As you do, the fog slowly reveals more and more of the creature.

It's certainly canine, you learn first, though oddly proportioned and moving strangely. It stumbles occasionally, and you can hear a whimper.

Then, as you get close, it's revealed how it's malformed. Or, more to the point, to what degree. Out of the side of its belly, a large tentacle grows, whipping around of its own accord and unbalancing the poor creature frequently. The skin of its legs seem to be eaten through by some sort of rot and acid. It has its two eyes, but other seemed to have formed essentially at random along its body, each rolling wildly and independently of the others.

It notices Kinsen, Saruko, and Hanzou's approach, turning toward them and growling weakly. As it growls, the mouth showing teeth splits nearly three quarters of the way down its body.

Pretty sure it's not supposed to do that.

Since he wasn't dragging his dagger-axe around and he didn't trust his mediocre skill with a bow, Sora slowly, quietly drew his sword while staying down.

"screet that isn't like any animal or spirit I've ever heard of."

As he moved closer, Hanzou drew a flesh cutter. Rather than loading his bow, however. He used it to slice down his fore arm, letting his blood fall to the earth as he whispered to the kami.

Kinsen frowns at the sight. Sad to see such suffering, her shoulders drop a level. Unsure if she should try to reach out and risk get bitten, reality is that the pure creature it once was is no more. At her eyes, the thing was suffering.

That could not stand.

Still maintaining close distance, the Stag warrior slowly removes the bronze blade she carried, planning so use it so that things suffering in this world would be gone.

It was a terrible sight. And it nearly broke her heart for a moment.

Slowly stepping back to avoid sudden moves, she kept her voice calm and soothing.

"Sh sh sh. There's nothing to be afraid of..."

It feels louder for a moment, but then a particularly strong whip of the oversized tentacle growing from its side knocks it to the ground with a whimper. It attempts to get up, but gives up after a few moments. As horrifying as it looks, it's clearly in no position to fight.

Studying it might do some good, but the creature is obviously in great pain.

Kinsen approaches and lifts her blade up, waiting if anyone would stop her before she delivers mercy to the creature.
