You still get what you earned that game. You don't need to spend anything to keep the effort you already put in.

I'm going to second this. I think I rather like the honored dead still being able to lend their points to something that serves in memoriam of them.

Yes.

Those already exist - Radiant weapons in advanced crafting. They just take a lot of skill.
