He stood at the entrance of the damp and foreboding cave. Whatever was inside had given the place a sinister aura, was it it Jigoku? They were further South now and this beauty seemed out of place, he expected things to get worse… maybe it was a face or maybe the land was shifting like the swamp that shouldn't have been.

Either way he took it upon himself to investigate.

Something was here.

Moving in his shadow was the silent wind of the Crane clan, nage-yari in hand.

His ears were cocked for any sign of danger.

Nanzi nodded to his ally and then crept inside quietly with his sword drawn.

Nanzi hears something whispering in the breeze.

Someone... How strange. I feel your presence... Who are you...?

Be careful here, stranger...

Nanzi motioned for Kaze to stop and take cover while he answered, "Just a traveler looking for a place to rest..."

Nanzi hears no reply but the slow viscous drips of water, even the sound was unnatural and slightly unsettling. Almost like saliva dripping in a massive maw.

Nanzi waited a moment more and then nodded for them to continue and said, "Nanzi is entering, if you wish for him to leave you have but to say so."

Kaze said nothing, but took a closer look at the entrance to the cave. If the dripping was like saliva, were there stalactites or stalagmites in patterns like unto a mouth as well?

The whisper returned but briefly "This is not my domain you are intruding on, not for me to protect or defile.......I simply advise caution....." and with that He felt somewhere inside him that whatever had been speaking left.

If one squinted just right and stood at the right angle they might be able to interpret the somewhat randomly placed rocks as jagged, uneven teeth.

That feeling gave Nanzi pause and he whispered, "Did you feel that?"

"No. What was it?"

Nanzi took a deep breath and said, “I heard a voice and it sounded… not like a warning but that this was a place we should be wary of. Then I felt an absence of something... “

“We have come to a dark place.”

Behind them, near the entrance, is sound. A person, not disguising their presence, is entering the cave. And talking to themselves. Out loud.

"Rat person work? No. Natural? Mostly. Mostly. But, not completely, I don't think." Kyosei, as is his nature, examines the cave walls, the ceiling area. Curious what he can figure out about it.

Nanzi held out his sword to stop the tribesman, “Best use caution, this place has a presence within.”

Kyosei stopped, blinking at the hand in front of him. "A spirit? Should I call upon the spirits for help, then?"

Nanzi looked to Kaze to see what he thought.

Examining the walls and such of the cave yield nothing overly odd, it seems to indeed be an entirely naturally forming cavern in the earth. The water and other forms of condensation seem strangely thick and viscous this effect seems to worsen the further in the cave you look with some strings dripping from a stalactite to the floor but still connected by the liquid. it also seems darker than it should even accounting for the lack of light.

Kaze thought about it a second, but spirits weren't exactly something he knew much about.

"I...suppose? I haven't been able to see anything from here."

There was yet one more presence creeping into the cave, in pursuit of whatever!

Kyosei nods. "This may take a few moments." He settles down into a sitting posture, then lays his hands on the ground and bows his head.

Though he bleeds in no way, it is soon obvious that something is happening, as his hands begin to be coated with dust, then a light dirt coating, then stone seems to cover them.

"Are there any unclean spirits here we should worry about?"
