The drumbeats of history (EM, D13)

Ryoko came to the tomb early, once she'd heard it was here, wanting to beat out the inevitable horde of looters.

At least, that was what she told herself.

Slipping into the dusty, quiet space, carrying a small orb of flame as a torch, she began to slowly explore, taking her time and searching carefully, hoping to find any clues that might speak to the history of her own people. Perhaps there would be nothing here but dead rats, sticks, and these unpleasant odor... or perhaps there might be something... anything... which gave her more insight into that murky past.

It takes her a while to find anything, but eventually she finds her way into the other room that's somewhat dark in the low light of the early morning, though becoming increasingly bright. Presumably the rats have some way of getting sunlight down here. As the room becomes more visible, she can begin to make out the murals on the walls... and she sees her people on one of the first murals to her left. It depicts a Nezumi using some kind of magic to make chains on it and others and ogres looking shocked.

Ryoko moved to the mural, fingers tracing the shapes of the long lost, expression thoughtful.

What was it... was this in the moments after the ogres won their victory against the darkness? Did the Nezumi betray them then? Or did they overthrow conquerors, instead of heroes...

Or was it both?

Holding up the flame, she cast her gaze over the room, now making a slower, more complete search, particularly the murals. Trying to make sense of what she saw... of the history.

There doesn't seem to be any indication of a fight with more than the Nezumi as the mural goes on. Instead, they only seem to fight the ogres, eventually claiming victory and beginning to build a great city that begins under and eventually stretches above ground. The Nezumi who disintegrated the chains grows in size in the mural until it shows his body as small in the last mural with a great light rising from it.

Ryoko followed the path of the murals, pondering the events, and then glanced back around the chamber.

So this was the home of a... a great rat. So the Nezumi might say. And now it was... dead? Ascended?

A small petulant voice encouraged her to break whatever she could... but that would be senseless.

Tempting, but senseless.

Giving the room one last look, she prepared to return... with more to ponder than before.
