Reo continues to dance back, frustrated at the unfortunate stalemate. The poison has made the blows coming from this ogre slow, but it seems somehow immune from his damage. With a cry, he sees Ko and Satone fall, leaving only Tao.

Looks like the second line is getting action sooner than I would have liked.

Still, there was a chance of a parting gift for them. Reo turns, changing targets and sending an fresh poison tipped arrow at the ogre leader, giving a satisfying 'thunk' as it impacts

The ogre's weapon comes within a hair's width from Taochusu, nearly crushing him and ending his life, but the big man barely manages to avoid it. He returns his own wild swing at the monster, but fails to connect by a much wider margin.

Satone feels her vision begin to blacken as her body falls. She catches one last glimps of Reo and Taochusu still engaging the forces of hell before her eyes close and she drifts into unconciousness.

The ogre leader grumbles out "Stronggg" before crushing Taochusu's head with his club a moment of appreciation for the group that stood against him then he dashed to the archer and swung his club but in his haste misjudged the position. The other ogre continued to fumble ineffectually.

Reo watches the scene with a hunter's eye all he watches the last melee defender fall. He has no illusions left, and one one card to play to get any of those around him with any chance of coming home alive. He begins to withdraw, retreating diagonal to the second defensive line. Even with his reduced speed, the two would have to make a choice: To go after their objective and leave Reo alone, or continue to give chase and leave their backs open to the second line. If they left the others alive but wounded, Reo could possibly treat them and get them back on their feet.

Let's hope that aren't too focused on revenge

Taochusu's body slumps to the ground under the force of the blow, brains and blood splattering from the smashing strike from the ogre. The splattering spray gets on the ogre's feet and the limp bodies of Satone and Ko. Karasu's feather, tied to his armor, soaked in the blood pooling around his neck. There was no longer a need for him to worry over surviving.

Reo hears snarls behind him as the ogres pound their chest at there victory here. They do not pursue the limping man but instead move forward to their objective wounded and battered as they are, they have a job to do.
