Something Terrible [EE, D11]

Scouts have spotted a small child matching the description of Mizuki, the small child that fled from the camp a couple days ago. The web fields were certainly a dangerous place for a small child as you have seen animals about her size tangled in the webs. Will a search party be sent to rescue the girl? Or will you leave her to her fate.

As the group scours the forest for sign of the girl they catch a glimpse of her darting around a tree. They push forward only to be confronted with Mizuki glaring at them with the intensity only a small child could muster "You were mean to me! I just wanted to feel safe but you were so mean!" She shouts at them the child like voice full of rage. but as the words leave her mouth the girl changes. Four long, black legs erupt from her back, the young girl expands as multiple black eyes open up across her face and her skin becomes black and hard. Where once stood the sweet Mizuki now stands a large black spider nearly two meters tall, covered in rocky chitin. Her mandibles rapidly rub together as two spiders about the size of small dogs crawl down from trees near by, their eyes fixed on you hungrily.

Rules:

Players begin 20 feet from "Mizuki" and 30 feet from the spiderlings. The ground here is sticky and heavily covered in webbing making it moderately difficult terrain. All players consider their water ring one lower for the purpose of movement unless they have some effect that ignores moderately difficult terrain.

All players first make a fear 2 check with a raw willpower check against tn 15, players add their honor rank to the roll. If you fail you get -2k0 on all rolls for the length of the skirmish.

If the players defeat "Mizuki" either by killing her or forcing her to retreat the players gain 10 purity points. If the players are defeated the players lose 10 purity points.

Due to the nature of the terrain escape is difficult, you may only use a complex action to escape if you have athletics 3 or some other ability that ignores moderately difficult terrain.

[Shoji Haka]

Haka had been in the area sticking small wooden figures into the sticky webs when some girl ran past her, yelled at her pursuers, and then transformed into something that sounded, much larger than a little girl.

Dropping her stick figures, Haka stood and drew a small knife from her belt. "Who is this?" she asks, more confused than anything.

[Jin]

Despite their concerns about the nature of the girl Jin could not allow someone to be left to the dangers of this land until they knew, for certain, she was not an innocent.

Well... now he knew for sure.

For once his will was iron and fear would not stop him from aiding and protecting his fellows.

Satone had went to speak with Jin again about perhaps meeting Shinjo with her. However, when she found where he had went, she set out after.

Taochusu looked at the creatures with a feeling of disgust forming in the pit of his stomach. It doesn't overwhelm him though, and he readies his dai tsuchi for the battle. "Disgusting."

[Shoji Haka]

"Big spider?" Haka turns her head in the direction of the skittering sounds. "Blegh."

She draws the knife across her arm, letting the blood spill down her fingers and then flicking it toward the creature. "Hark, spirits of the earth, rise up against the damned! Thy days are numbered!"

She carefully moves away from the monsters as spherical balls of ghostly energy rise up from the ground and plunge into the giant spider, visibly weakening it and surrounding it in an unsettling aura.


(Casting The Wolf's Mercy against the big spider, success. Its Strength Rank and Earth Ring is lowered by 1 rank, affecting its Wound Ranks correspondingly. If it has at least one rank of Shadowlands Taint, its Earth Ring (and Wound Ranks) is instead lowered by 2 ranks (to a minimum of 1 rank). The effect lasts for 10 rounds.)

[Jin]

Jin's knife was drawn, and drawn against his stump, in a flash - his blood splattering the ground as he moved back against the webs behind Satone as he had promised just a few days past.

"We're filled up on spiders." Apparently the sorcerer got quippy in life or death situations... a surprise to him as well.

At first it seemed that his cut had done nothing but as he finishes moving a small tremor shakes the earth before the land beneath each spider bursts outward in flying green shards - blasting against the, hopefully, sensitive bellies of the beasts.

(Free action draw weapon, Free action speak five words, Free action move back 10ft, Complex action Jade Strike - 22 damage to all three if they are tainted. Jin takes 4 wounds)

[Tyrus]

Haka can feel the earth kami respond to her call and the giant spider seems to sag slightly against the weight of the spirits wrath.

as Jin shoots out the jade the main spider hisses angrily as her young shrivel and die from the magic assault.

The angry monster moves lighting fast toward the one who killed its young and lashes out at Jin but in its fury the swipe went wide.

[Taochusu]

Taochusu, watches as the angry spider slips by and steps in behind her to follow. Using his short powerful steps to gain momentum, swings it with as much force as he can at the bulbous abdomen.

Satone shouts and then swings at the beast, her hammer coming down hard.

Their hammers strike the beast who is much sturdier than it appears, the strikes crack chitin but it remains standing menacing the heroes with its presence.

[Shoji Haka]

Haka shifts the knife to her bloody hand and slices her other arm, then tucks the knife away and reaches toward the spider with two bloody hands. "No mercy for the damned!"

She lifts her hands, and two giant hands of pure jade burst out of the ground to either side of the spider. Haka slaps her hands together, spraying blood across her face, and the huge jade hands follow suit, squishing the spider between them like a bug.

[Jin]

Jin continues to fall back as well. It was true that the creature could outmaneuver him no matter where he went but he also wanted to not get in the way of a blind woman moving earth around....

He thrusts the stump of his hand towards the spider-like entity the blood flinging from it forming into shards of jade that again penetrate into the cracks in its carapace. It was no massive hand of jade but it still hurt.

[Tyrus]

The beast gets little chance to react to anything as it is assaulted by hammers and rocks and jade its kin cracks and blisters breaking apart "I just.. wanted..." it tries to speak through its broken mouth as it collapses hard onto the ground black blood leaking out of it slowly.

Haka remains ready for a few moments longer, until it seemed that there was no more fighting happening.

"Okay, why is there a giant spider?" she finally asks, lowering her blood-streaked hands.

[Seidou Satone]

Satone rests her hammer on her shoulder and turns to Jin.

"I am curious about that too. It seemed to know us?"

[Taochusu]

Taochusu, rather than remaining ready, remains active and makes sure that it won't get up again, swinging down on it a few more times. He doesn't immediately hear the question. He was not a fan of things trying to kill his new allies.

[Jin]

"Return to wherever it was from which you came." He almost felt bad for it... almost.

Another quick nick on his arm and Haka's wounds seal up

"Something twisted by this corruption we fight. I do not know if it was a girl that became a spider or a spider that became a girl... but whatever it was it deserved an end to its suffering."

(11 healed exactly, Jin takes 1 wound)

[Shoji Haka]

Haka holds her hands up as they heal, then lowers them.

"It did not seem to be suffering very much before this group started killing it," she points out.
