The Stag's role in this continuity might be to ensure that neither the Nezumi Empire or the Naga become a menace to the Human Empire. One possible way to achieve that is to pit them against each other (not exactly hard) while making sure no side suffer a loss terrible enough to break the balance.

Not unlike what the Otomo do with the clans in canon, but with other countries.

Which is interesting to think about considering IH2's Togashi Dynasty chapter where Hantei's Owl Clan does... well, exactly that, keeping eyes on and fighting the non-human elements and threats to the Empire! And the Stag appear geographically to be able to accomplish similar.

Questions that come to my mind after reading it (future plot hooks?):

General:
With so many twins, and the emperor himself being a twin, did some specific customs emerged regarding twins?
So, Hisomu is the only one feeling like the expedition may have brought back more than the eye can see from the shadowlands? Guess there are issues with having been a bit too successful ("that Jee-Go-Koo stuff wasn't so dangerous after all").

Crab:
What happened to the Crab previous holdings? Gifted to the Stag?
Did the Crab receive some sort of compensation for their hassle? From a certain point of view, they've been punished for something they couldn't know about at the time, so I also wonder how muddled are Crab/Crane and Crab/Imperial relationships after that affair.

Crane:
What is Hadananzi official position/occupation within the Crane?

Dragon:
What happened to Wu?

Ki-Rin:
Is there a proto ryu rider (or wyvern rider) advanced school in the making, similar to the orochi riders for Mantis in canon?

Lion:
The map shows no access to the sea for the Lion clan. Already out-of-date?

Stag:
State of the relationship with the Nezumi? Embassies, trade routes etc. Do some humans speak the Nezumi language now?

Yeah, that's gonna be fun.

I can say that, as far as future character concepts go, one of Jin's kids likely inherited that dot of taint. But that's not canon until said character exists if they ever do.

I was kind of amazed that Bayushi got less love than literally anyone else in Dawn 1.

Well, apart from establishing a Family, the rest also needs to have goals spent on it, cities and castles and such.

Well, it's a bit too soon for Taochusu's reincarnated soul to be of age. I could, however, play the next character as that reincarnated soul's parent and have them as a dependent. Then play them as grown up in the game after that. I imagine it probably took around 10 years of wandering meido before the judgement and rebirth so they'd be around 5.

Taochusu died in 10. Next game is 25. He could be an up and coming young buck of 14 or 15 by then.
