Where we are here for such a short time before continuing on I viewed it as us gathering fresh provisions for the Seidou to replace the dried and stored provisions they would be giving to us for the trip in exchange. We march the next day so definitely no time for smoking/salting/pickling or other preservation methods. We're taking what was left of their winter stock and early prepared spring harvest and giving them replacements they'll have ample time to prepare for next winter.

I approve of this notion as it makes the most sense logically, and fits with the use of Stealth (Five finger discount) rolls made during the gathering event.
