I know that we are here to rescue Fu Leng, but I have some questions; will the ratlings be there from the start? Where are we beginning the journey and have we just arrived to martial out for the journey or have we been there some time preparing? I did not see any info on this on the site.

2) You'll see on Day 1, but it's the location of the Seidou tribe, and it'll be the final prep and the first camp D1.

Writing background right now. Wondering how the first generation of not-yet-samurai is recruited. Do the family founders go full recruitment drive in the tribes every year to get onboard those now of age? Is it more of a messy thing, with people knocking on the clan doors from time to time? Or is each clan already self-sufficient, getting its "elites" only from its own ranks?

It's a bit messy and depends on the Tribe. 90% of the tribes that were polled about last game joined the Clans they were voted into, and the Noriaki are almost 100% due to Kinsen's goal. The Isawa are as contentious as always, but many of the members are floating toward the Kami while some of the leadership is grumpy about that.

As Saruko noted, It also depends on the Clan. People are floating toward the Kami, some in large batches, some in small. They're welcoming them, and some Kami are actively recruiting. Hantei, Akodo, etc.

And Nanzi and Doji are as Nanzi noted.

The Ronin Shugenja School may gains spells on increasing Insight Rank.

Assuming this applies even to Self-Taught Shugenja which normally states otherwise: Jin started at Rank 2 in the last game so never received any during ranking up. He then learned one spell during the last game and created one. Would we count those two as his bonus spells for Rank 2 or should I be picking two more.

1) They do.
2) I'm going to say yes, but the time and effort to acquire them, since they're rare and take effort to make, means costs are doubled.

Since it is still listed as non-existent for this game should those points be respent or have the Ki-Rin made some advances that aren't widely available yet?

I messed it up like is happening with a lot of stuff right now, apparently. You can take it. It's limited, since you're one of the first people going around teaching it.

Glory, yes. Status up to 4.0.

Regarding starting cash, do characters who began as ronin but have joined the clans start getting that sweet, sweet Kami koku? Or are we still sad, impoverished hangers-on of our new overlords, kept poor so that we do not have dreams of running away?

With glory for being spouse and a family daimyo, is our glory set to rank 6 or do we gain that many ranks?

Edit: Do we get that on top of the glory we gained last game also/fame we started with, or is all factored in?

It's one less than the higher glory spouse. The Kami are Glory 10, so they're spouses are 9.

Nazo may be the exception, as fewer people are likely to have heard of Ryoshun.
