I always hated the inequity of that system, where merely one well placed shot to a buffalo forced you to waste extensive meat. I appreciate that it was meant to be educational about the death of the species, but the process wasn't automatically THAT wasteful,

I expressly hunted bears and stags for that reason.

Hahaha, that too. One of my early tricks when playing lower cash characters was to master the hunting system, buy a limited stock of food and slaughter things at just the right rate for the first several weeks of the treck with only one or two bullets each time. It made for a very cheap return on the food investment early on, and got you going for a while.
