Armed with a bit of knowledge, Reo looks through the marketplace, trying to find a smith. In particular, one who has a variety of metals shown, as he wants to run down an idea about a potential new tool.

He soon finds a fairly large blacksmith displaying a variety of weapons. A Nezumi at the front looks surprised. "What want-want? Better weapons?"

"Something like that. I've heard you can make steel from iron and other rocks. What happens if you were to out Jade in while you made the new metal?" Reo flashes a piece. "Does it destroy the magic? Does it go into the metal?"

The smith... or more likely the apprentice... shook their weak. "Weak-weak metal. Use jade... ' ' ' ..." The rat pulled up a knife, and a small grindstone and mimed grinding something and applying the powder to the edge. "... Like this."

"Hmm" it seemed that his idea was a bust, but this seemed like a new idea. "How does it stay on? Do you need to keep applying?"

"Cut evil, turn black anyway. Apply again," it explained. "Show how stick." The Nezumi did so, showing the slightly more but still not terribly elaborate method.

Once it was finished, the rat asked, "Human need-need more knowing?"

Reo pulls out the steel bolts he had found the other day and one of his Willow Leaf arrows.

"How much to make this steel in this shape?"

"Mm... Not-not much. Few orange-metal." It held up a copper coin. "Same-same trade things."

"Sounds fair. I can make the shaft and fletching myself." Reo pulls a few coins out of his pack.

The rat nodded. "Only make heads, then. Come back in couple hours. Be done-done then." They took the money, the arrow, and the steel bolts and headed back into the blacksmith's shop.
