Seeking Shiney-Shiney (D7, EA)

It took him a while to overcome his distraction trying to map his way through the city, in three dimensions no less, to the market but Jin had, finally, made it.

Now it stood to see how long it took his good eye to spot a forge where the weapons were 'shiney-shiney' not just normal iron or steel. He did not have coin himself, nor would be likely to wield a weapon if he did, but he could at least try to learn the nature of these special weapons and perhaps direct others of their journey to a proper smith.

A 6' tall rat with mottled white and tan fur with a few burn scars winding their way through its fur greets him. "Oh, a human, and one of the northerners..."

They clear their throat, then say, "H-helping with?"

Jin nods in greeting, "I was told of great weapons - shiney - that can harm even evil spirits. I came seeking to learn more."

"' ' ' ... know more what? How making?" The Nezumi seemed confused.

Jin nods, "How they can harm spirits. What is different about them that allows it?"

The blacksmith sighed as they tried to figure out a way to explain it in the human tongue. He was really bad with the speech of the northerners. "Light pure-pure. So make bigger, make shine-shiney. Shine-shiney hit... floaty no-feel spirit. Normal all other."

Jin rubs his chin, "Do you have one here? That I might see the difference?"

He nodded. "But no-touch." He went into the back and when he returned, he was carrying a large axe that seemed to almost shine with its own light as it caught every stray beam and reflected it back. "Shine-shiney big-heavy pole-blade."

Kin chuckles a little, "I don't think I could lift it if I wanted to but, yes, no touching." He does move slightly closer, if allowed, to try to inspect the source of the light.

It seems to be a combination between something applied to increase the gloss of it, and subtle changes in the shape of the metal surface to better catch surrounding light. It could be possible that Name magic could be involved?

"Impressive. Is there magic? Or could a human smith, if smart and humble in study with you, learn its ways evemtually?"

Another nod, "I may have to send a student to study someday. This will be very important to know. Thank you." He looks over the weapon again, "I assume such shiney weapons are rare and valuable. I am not a warrior but if any who travel with us are interested what would it take in trade for them to gain such a fine weapon?"

"Many-many extra and rare materials. Usually just given for much-much danger to strong-strong warrior. Nezumi trade coin, but humans no have coin... stuff equal six-tens-and-five shiny-yellow coin," it explained.

Another rub of the chin, "How much food would one shiny-yellow coin buy?"

"Mm... Depend on food. Red-orange-threads..." He held up his fingers to show a generous pinch. "White-water-grains..." He moved his arms to illustrated roughly a bushel. "Very different. Tiny-ball-long-grass even more. Easy grow."

Jin nods thinking he gets a rough idea, "Very valuable indeed. Your people are lucky to have such a skilled smith."
