(D7, LN, Open) Watchers of the stars

The stars had called for a more careful night watch, and so here he was, patrolling in the depth of the night after too short a rest.

His wandering eyes caught a glimpse of the other stars, the ones still up in the sky. And he wondered. How different were they so far south, in a land touched by another realm?

He gazed deeper, looking for answers.

A little further away Xia yawns loudly, rubbing the back of her head and trying to focus on the darkness outside the camp.
Fortunes, night watch was boring.

Nanzi and Jongwun, though he bade her rest but she did not, were also near the fire keeping watch.

Dawei, unless he has somehow died since the last time slot, resumes his prior location, though changes have made it more visible, somehow (Stealth 23). He continues to keep an eye and ear out, as well (Hunting 21).

Jong wun paced around the fire while Nanzi took a seiza by the fire and said:

"Fires grow within,
Silence, preparation, mind,
Challenge, Focus, Strike."

The arrangement of the stars speaks of respite, but great danger following it.

The stars were their usual self. It was reassuring. Whatever corruption was plaguing this land, it hasn't reach up to the heavens yet.

Ayumu lowered his head and looked at his fellow watchpersons. Some were expected. Others not so much.

He signed to Dawei, who wasn't as hidden as he thought: All quiet?

Dawei sees the signing, nods.

Slim's either got sharp eyes or I did a shitty job of hiding, he thinks.

Part of the Late Patrol, the massive mountain of a man, and the younger Matsu, worked. They remained vigilant, the young girl gripping her polearm tightly. For this part, Yamadono kept his massive club rested across his broad shoulders. They were silent, and watchful.

Having heard the call for watchmen of the night, Miyako answered and joined those that agreed to take the late night watch. Unlike her outings around the campfire sharing and listening to stories where she is dressed in her trinkets of rocks and feathers and other fun things that Nature provide, her armor on the watch is much more muted, the regalia of things stripped off to avoid unnecessary jingling and other noises. It had been a bit of time since the last time she had performed such watch duties so late in the night, and her eyesight was perhaps not well-accustomed to the darkness as it could be, but she still tried to remain vigilant nonetheless as she walked around and between the various campfires still lit and watched out on the horizon, the tribeswoman occasionally twirling her spear in hand while she walked and, when she took a break by the fire, humming the tune of a song or two.

(fluff?) Investigation: 17

Looking over at Ayumu, she grinned wide at the opportunity for a bit of signing practice! She placed the shaft of her spear against the inside of her elbow in one arm to brace it from falling and free her hand for the time being so she could sign back to him more quickly with both hands.

Hello. I listen to star lady. Here I come and answer. Rain not good not bad today. How are you?

Big rat town big. Big! Up with sun in sky, go to rat town. Much walk. Much walk! No where me walk! She emphasized the last point as she chuckled lightly, pointed her fingers in many directions, and then put her hand over her eyes with one hand as she held up her other hand and mimicked a person walking in the air.

Different walk, good walk. Me tired too. Quiet night? No problem? Miyako pointed out to the horizon beyond the light of the campfire, put her hand straight over top of her eyes, and did a left-to-right sweep of the head, eyes wide pretending to be focused looking out in the distance.

Miyako nodded her head. Quiet good! We watch, camp stay quiet. All sleep quiet in night, then morning come, all good. She smiled and then paused as she paused to think of something for a moment.

You cook food good. She swirled her hand in front of her as if stirring a giant cauldron or pot, then patted her stomach with a look of satisfaction on her face. Me very thankful. All very thankful for good food. How you learn cook good?

Big family good. Me no have big family. Just mother. Me village family. She maintained her smile as she said that, though on those last word-signs it became more muted. It quickly returned on the comment about her stories, however.

Thank you. I like good story and to say many good story. I song too. Dragon lady say good story too. Miyako looked at her spear and back to Ayumu, putting her hand in front of her and bobbing it from side to side - so-so, essentially - before she extended it fully out in front of her. She put her hand next to the other, pulled that same arm back, then quickly pulled her first arm back to her chest while simultaneously shooting out her other arm, fingers fully extended as far as they could go, and then brought that hand back to continue to sign.

Me good bow. Me village people - forest people - all good bow. Quiet with bow, hunt good with bow, live with bow. The tribeswoman pointed at his weapon. How you?

I am good. But no very good. Good enough..."

He took a "you shall not pass stance", his spear set horizontally before him as to prevent anyone from getting past him.

"But no good enough...

Returning his yari to his standard position, he put his fist against his palm, mimicking something getting thoroughly crushed.

Many people here more good.

People not me do look good with that, Miyako signed and nodded her head in agreement. Me like you - good enough. Other very good, but me no very good. More good with bow like me say. She paused for a moment to consider something and to watch a handful of sparks come out from the *pop* of one of the logs in a nearby fire before turning back and continuing.

You want be very good with that? Miyako asked, her other hand pointing at the spear. You want be very good different thing? You cook very good - want be better at one thing? Be very good in two thing? Many thing?
