[Day 5, EA] On the Hunt

[Hantei Kinsen]

Kinsen checks if there's anything the odd-eyed ex-Hikaru had in his mind before she would bring Tengoku's Justice to the creature.

[Jiyo Sora]

Sora broke cover, and, with his sword in hand, he approached carefully.

"Be careful. Don't let it bleed on you, and watch out for that tentacle."

Shinsei had said the slightest contact could get things started.

"But nothing should have to live like that."

[Togashi Saruko]

Nodding, Saruko slowly picked up her staff on the ground and left her basket on the ground. While the sword would probably be better if it came at her past the others, she felt more secure with a longer weapon between her and that... tentacle-thing.

[Hantei Kinsen]

Kinsen nods, and attacks the helpless creature from above, trying to cut its existence from this world.

[Canary]

The creature doesn't have time to react before the two halves of its head are cleaved from its body. The tentacle flails for a moment, then goes limp.

Its body lies as a testament to the influence of Jigoku on the mortal realm.

[Hanzou]

Hanzou jabbed the arrow into his arm again, letting the blood pool in his hand before it fell like rain. He whispered to the water spirits to sharpen his eyes.

"We should take a look at it, skriss carefully." he suggested, stepping forward to investigate.

[Canary]

The creature, on closer observation, appears to have once been a dhole - a wild dog common in this area and around Kuwagaya and Seidou lands. It's overgrown and has lost its hair in addition to the other changes, but the water kami allow insight into what it once was.

[Hantei Kinsen]

Kinsen shivers a bit and swings her blade down in an arch to get the ooze out of it. Happily, she's strong enough to cleanse it in full. She pours water over the blade and looks to Saruko. "How can I be certain the blade is clean from this foulness?"

[Togashi Saruko]

"I... don't think it is something that lingers in inanimate objects..." she said, but wasn't fully sure. "Perhaps a priest can cleanse it or restore it."

Carefully, she approached closer and poked the deformities on the creature with the end of her staff. It was the first time she actually saw what the corruption would do to those touched by it. "Poor creature... it must've been in a lot of pain." But how did it become so deformed? They were still so far away from where they were headed, and already it would seem the corruption had spread.

A wrinkle formed on her forehead as she regarded the scene with a serious face.

[Hantei Kinsen]

"Priest?" She looks at Hanzou.

[Hanzou]

"I can ask the sreess water spirits to examine the blade." he offered as he walked up with a stick and prodded the carcass.

He looked the body over, looking for signs of where and how the corruption may have started.

[Hantei Kinsen]

Kinsen blinks a bit at his mannerism, but, besides that, nods to what he said. "I guess you know more than I do about asking things to the water kami. I'm good at asking questions to one specific Kami... or two, tops."

[Jiyo Sora]

"Be more concerned with the corpse than your blade."

Sora was rather pointedly keeping his distance fromt he potential reach of the tentacle.

"I mean, clean the... blood off of it, by all means, but carefully."

So, not just madness... mutation.

[Hantei Kinsen]

"I did!" She frowns at Sora, as she used to, for some reason. "I am saying what if there's something... invisible?"

[Togashi Saruko]

Saruko let the two of them bicker for now, ignoring it as she was unable to look away from the mutated body infront of them.

"... I see..." she murmured. It made sense, in a way. She knew it had been a spiritual corruption, but it made sense that it what ailed the spirit would also afflict the body, considering how connected the two were.

[Jiyo Sora]

"If contact as brief as that merciful strike of yours had an immediate effect, I'd say it's already too late for all of us. But maybe you should ask Shinsei. Might be we all need to get better with our archery."

[Togashi Saruko]

"If everyone needs to become archers, we have a bigger problem of having enough bows." She knew bows took time to make, and required decent wood.

"... I hope you understand my concern before, Lady Kinsen. This is the work of the enemy we're up against. It doesn't discriminate at all - the very realm wants to do... this," she gestured vaguely to the creature, "to all of us. Everything."

They absolutely had to make sure everyone would have jade somehow from this point onward. She hoped the Nezumi might have, or know.

[Hantei Kinsen]

"Can someone rub that jade thing on my blade?!" Kinsen widens her eyes at them. "Rub it on me!"

[Jiyo Sora]

Sora practically gaped at her.

"You... the wife of Hantei.... haven't got jade on you?"

[Togashi Saruko]

It seemed Hantei had yet to get his ass in gear, even after Saruko's talk with him that morning. So she wasn't quite sure what to think now.

Stepping back and away from the creature, keeping a good distance from its tentacle in case that suddenly decided to come back to life, she reached inside her robe to find one of the jade stones she kept attached to a cord. It seemed that the jade Togashi's wife had was safely kept close to her skin.

"Your sword is just a sword, but carry this until we get back to camp. And when we do, you will go straight to your husband and tell him about this." And then he can do his duty as a husband to protect you like he most likely has vowed when you were wed.
