Despite the cheer of the storytelling that evening, once alone, Saruko found her thoughts drifting towards darker corners of her mind. She kept seeing the corrupted animal again in her mind.
She lit a candle and placed it in the lantern, and sat down to focus herself on the single flame. One of the meditation techniques she had learned from her husband. It helped ease her mind, for a while, and she did find a measure of inner peace.
It gave her a sense of an idea. Of what she could do. Moving from her bedroll and blankets, she found her papers and the wooden board she used as a work surface... and her paint. A few moments of setting up, and then she began to put the sight they had seen onto paper.
