Steal from the Rich and Give to the Us [Day 3, EA]

(THIS IS A COMBAT THREAD! DEATH, DISMEMBERMENT, AND OTHER BADNESS IS POSSIBLE)

While out scouting the area ahead of the main group you just barely notice tracks leading deeper into the woods. Surely this is exactly the kind of thing a scouting party should look into...

Location: The Forest

Participants: Up to 5

Time: EA. This event will open at 12:00 pm PDT, 5/22

Rules:
The Hunt
All characters make a TN 15 Perception/Hunting (Tracking) check to follow the tracks. If no player passes this step, skip step two.

The Jump
All Characters make a TN 20 Perception/Investigation (Notice) check, the Wary advantage applies to this roll.
If you pass you see the the ambush coming in enough time and may make a TN 20 Agility/Stealth check to set an ambush of your own. Passing this will mean the bandits will be unaware of you during the first round of combat.

The Fight
If no players passed step one the bandits are upon you! Their trap sprung with excellent banditry, two players (chosen by the GM) are shot by arrows and then the players begin engaged with 3 bandits while two archers stand 30 feet away.

Otherwise the characters spot the ambush before it happens and the bandits come out to challenge and threaten the scouts. Roll initiative. Bandits start 15 away while Archers are 30.

Characters may, as a complex action, flee the fight. They run back to camp to lick their wounds but survive to fight another day.

If at least one player defeats the bandits the players gain 10 purity points. If all the players are brought to down or flee the bandits win, they take anything of value off of characters who stayed and the players lose 10 purity points.

A crackling in the brush tells him he does not have time to lay in his own ambuscade--but he is at least not subject to one, himself.

Kaze's senses, heightened by the oppression of his home environment, pick up the tracks in stark relief. He signals to the others by raising his hand quickly and clenching his fist before indicating their direction.

Then he heard a twig snap ahead. A second hand gesture later, and he was disappearing into the thickets, spear in hand.

Having caught wind of the tracks, Kanna began to follow them, motioning those who followed to join her. Big fucking Club (TM) in hand, she studied the signs. Bandits. Of course it was fucking bandits.

Finding the clearing, she could see where they'd be coming from. Instead of finding a place to hide, she pointed the others to do so instead. "I'll give 'em somethin' to target. You smash the shit out of them when they come for me." She grinned widely. Excited to knock some heads around.

[Noriaki no Yamadono]

The Mountain of a Man was with the scouting party, his eyes narrowed as he sniffed the air. Something didn't smell right, and the tracks confirmed it. Gripping the Tetsubo tightly, he worked with the others tracking the steps.

And while he did spot the ambush, he knew that wearing his armor, he wouldn't be able to get the drop on them. Instead, the towering warrior stood with Kanna, both hands on the hilt of the massive club.

"Fools." He uttered as he stared them down.

Ko had heard so many tales about the dangers of this land over the past few days that the safe and mostly uneventful progress of the main party was starting to make the back of her neck itch. Whether this side-trail led to danger or just some hardy local people, she was too curious to be left behind...

She followed along easily, frowning as she recognized the signs of ambush. She thought she'd found a good place to hide herself out of sight, but the creaking of her fish-leather and rattan armor may have given her away...

You follow the trail and come upon a clearing, a massive, heavily muscled man stands there covered in hide and furs leaning on a large stone axe pointing to different spots and talking to a rough looking group armed with stone weapons and bows, they seem to be planning an ambush.

one of them spots your group and shouts a warning the two archers fall back nocking arrows and the rest ready their weapons.

“Well look at this! Seems like they came to us and saved us the trouble of waiting to jump ‘em!” The large man bellows “I think we’ll be takin’ yer stuff and usin yer skulls to remind people who these woods belong to!”

The massive man hefts his large stone axe and charges toward the small group shouting "Might as well give up we have you outnumbered!" as his axe swings wide missing the spider yojimbo who was prepared for the assault.

Moving in synch with his boss an archer looses and arrow at the massive Noriaki scoring a solid hit in the big man's shoulder

Dawei darts forward as the bandit leader does, and he strikes [one of the thugs]. He smiles--a grim and hateful thing--and his sword shines bronze in the afternoon light as it thrusts in, taking the [thug] squarely in the center mass.

meanwhile the other archer sees the mountain of a noriaki and decides he doesn't want that up close and personal with him and fires at the giant man but his arrow seems to go just wide.

From his space in the thicket to the right of the engagement, Kaze launched his spear at the first archer. He didn't pause to see the blood spew from his enemy's side as he darted to a new space further ahead.

And then he turned his back on her to stab at the quiet, sneaky Seppun instead. Ko was incensed.

The hard-edged warclub handed down from her grand-uncle crunched into the man's ribs...

"I guess this is dibs!" Kanna laughed eagerly as the boss came after her, blocking his first attempted strike with her big fuckin' club. She responded by going low, trying to take him out at his legs. Unfortunately, he's able to just leap over her strike, the club bouncing on the ground a moment before she reared it back and growled, waiting for the reply.

The arrow impacted into his armor, piercing the hide and fur before cutting deep into his flesh. Staring at the two archers as they loosed fire at him, he reached up, ripping the arrow out, snapping it in his fist.

Then, as the spear sunk into one archer, he moved with great purpose to the other archer. "I hope you've said goodbye."

Ko's Tetsubo smashed into the thug who foolishly opened his back to the woman just barely keeping his feet under the weight of the blow.

The two archer's look quite terrified of the large man within striking distance.

The first thug whom Dawei stabbed shouted "My Turn!" and struck out with his stone sword but perhaps due to the surprise of the club wielding woman the strike went a little wide.

The large barbarian smirks as he turns just enough that Kanna's blow glances off his shoulder. He roars in defiance as he tries to put his all into a blow attempting to knock the woman off her feet but his own blow fails to connect.

the wounded archer stumbles back and shoots the large man approaching them and shoots him in a desperate attempt to fend off his advance. The arrow sinks deep into Yamadono's side.

[Seppun Dawei]

Dawei rolls, turns as the second thug's stone dagger finds the gaps in his armor. He grunts as the ragged stone edge tears flesh, but his movement makes it less effective a blow than would otherwise have been.

He looks at the first one. "No, you do it like this," says Dawei as his sword dips into the thug once again, coming back bloody from just inches below the previous blow.
