A-Hunting We Will Go! [D1 LM, Expecting]

[Yogo]

"Ready when you are." the young man quipped, carrying no spear or bow. He had an old sword at his side with a strange bird-bone amulet hanging from his neck. "I am not much of a tracker, but extra eyes never hurt, neh?"

[Seidou Satone]

Satone nods at Miyako.

"Sounds good to me."

She then kneels down and begins to look at her surroundings. After a few moments, she says

"Looks like there is something fresh having been through here not long ago. Shall we?"

She looks back at Kuon and Yogo

[Nozomi]

She nodded her head and smiled as the newcomer arrived. "Good morning, Phi - Miyako of the Chinsei. And yes, you have arrived in the right place for the hunt and are most welcome to join us!" Miyako looked up at the sky briefly - clouds had passed, the giant fireball had moved... now was as good a time as any!

"Yes, I think this will be enough for now: don't want to wait too long after all. Two groups of three should be sufficient and efficient, though if you all will do keep an eye out and see if anyone else appears on the horizon as we catch them up and bring them in as needed. Unless anyone feels strongly or has any objections... Yogo, perhaps you and Kuon and Satone? And Phi, that will have you with Inga and I," she said, gesturing at each in turn as a measure of introducing them all to the newcomer.

"And as has been suggested, we can try southward to start. Unless anyone has any final things they need to take care of first," she started, giving her bow and string a quick once-over before looking back at the group, "I'm ready to go!"

She listened to them. Each name was filed away as soon as Miyako gave them. It saved her the time with going through introductions unless they insisted on being sociable about it all. A grunt and she smiled, glad that they had the sense to split the group into two. "We can meet up again when the sun's there," she said, indicating about an hour or two. Plenty of time to gather. "Lead the way, Miyako. I'll be on the look out for tracks." She eyed both of the women she'd be traveling with, and began to set out towards the south.

She'd already been around here for a few hours for her morning bath, so she had a bit of a lay of the land at least as she loped forward and started to move quietly, an arrow ready to be knocked.

[Reo]

There is a soft "brush-thump, brush-thump, brush-thump" headed in their direction.

"Room for one more?" Reo raises an eyebrow and looks over the assembled group. He waits for the looks of judgement, curious to see how well this group hides them. To his knowledge, none of the Kakita had come here outside maybe some of those Crane fellows, but they tended to flock together. There was no room for a gimp outsider among them.

The group was, let's call it eclectic with persons with all builds, colors and sizes.

For the best. Maybe it won't be so obvious here.

[Nozomi]

Phi glanced back at Miyako and then at the newcomer, giving a quick nod. "Fine by me. Just don't scare the game off," she said, and there was a hint of a grin underneath the veil. It was kind of hard to tell what her expressions really were with that thing on her face, just the way that she liked it. "Phi."

[Reo]

Reo inclines his head slightly and then nods in understanding. He shuffles a little bit and looks down before moving a bit closer, doing his best to keep his steps short and as silent as possible. He pulls the long low off of his back, and tests the tension of the string with a casual ease, almost a lovers embrace.

He takes a moment, observing the woman in the mask. It was a curious fashion choice, especially for someone not wearing clan colors, but it didn't seem to be effecting her. There was also a towering woman with hair like he setting sun...it was rather impressive. Then, a pretty man who appeared to be the leader, a man in a wide brimmed hat and a woman in what looked like Shoji clothes.

He nods again at the woman in the mask. "Reo." He could appreciate her curtness.

[Miyako]

"Plenty of room! I'm Miyako - we're all headed in the same direction to start, but you can come join us in this group!" Miyako said as she waved her hand in a motion for Reo to follow. "From what I overheard this morning, we'll need provisions for at least a couple weeks and there's quite a number of people going, so any big game will go a long way in adding to the food stores, though if you have a clean shot don't neglect the smaller things too, they'll fill a belly just the same!" And since it looked like everyone else was rip-roaring-ready to go, she plucked her bowstring twice juuuuust to be sure and she started walking southward with the rest of them! Much of the morning was still very much ahead of them, but the hard part of figuring out and paying attention to the supply situation, finding a good spot to find game, and getting the hunting party all good and organized for a successful hunt was out of the way. The actual hunting, though? That would hopefully be the easy part - and much more fun too!

[Inga]

Another one joined the hunt. She listened to Miyako and nodded. "I think I also heard we might need medical herbs and perhaps some fruits." Inga added. "We don't know what we might encounter where we are going." The girl added.

[Nozomi]

She nodded back to Inga. "Something like that would be useful, yes." She almost added 'probably good to bring Jade,' but it wasn't like there was any just lying around on the ground here and she genuinely assumed that they'd been given the warning in advance like she had to know about such things. Why call so many without informing them?

Grunting, she started to move on ahead, crouching low and blending into the underbrush. Her eyes narrowed, and she knocked, ready to fire. For the moment she hadn't taken the shot. It looked like she was waiting for something up ahead to make its move first.

[Reo]

Reo doesn't seem to go into specifics about the hunting, instead nodding. He takes his space from the others, pulling out his bow. He hears the words about small game, and focuses. After all, small game was stored just as well. His pace is slow, but Reo is a practiced hunter, and he uses it to his advantage. A pack of game birds are bobbing near the water. As one dives beneath the shallows, a shaft takes its friend. A shaft is waiting as the first returns to the surface. Reo limps to the water, pulling the pair out and casually walking back.

He hopes that he strikes an imposing figure as he comes back, but he doesn't quite pull it off.

Satone guides her group forward and points out a target to them, keeping quiet as she does so.

When Inga mentioned herbs and the like, Miyako used her free hand to point across the field to where some of the late-blooming flowers in various vibrant colors could be seen in the distance. "I don't know much about making such things myself, but my dear village aunt showed me a couple times that those flowers in red over there, if you dig them up from the root, then the root can be mashed into a paste to apply over small cuts and scrapes to make them heal faster. Not the pink flowers, however, and certainly not the white. At least, that's what I was told: I don't remember why not the white."

Once they had made their way southward enough, she too crouched low and started to quietly make her way through some of the taller grasses where she thought she had heard a couple pheasants milling about in a small clearing ahead...

With all of the noise running around, and so many others, remaining truly stealthy wasn't as easy as she would have liked. Phi was managing, but the bigger game were going to be difficult to catch off guard. Still, when she loosed the first of her arrows, it did find its mark in a small, young boar before bringing the beast down.

The moment it went down, she loped up and towards the thing, pulling out a knife to truss it and dress it. As she caught it up, she nodded in satisfaction. This, along with many of the other game, would be enough to help in the effort. It should be cured soon, to ensure it lasted. But it wouldn't spoil too quickly. Her head poked up from the underbrush near the river and she nodded to whichever could see her.

[Miyako]

Meanwhile, Miyako continued to work her way through the grass towards the pheasants until she got to a place where she would have a clear and clean shot at the largest of them. Maneuvering through the grasses had been fine, her steps forward soft and timed with the occasional breeze that blended it in with the blades of grass rustling together. The hard part now, however, was the slight stand she would need to giver her enough room to loose the arrow upon the unfortunate creature. She waited again for the breeze to blow beforecalmly and quietly as can be rising to her full height, her movements very slow but deliberate as an arrow is knocked and her bowstring is pulled back.

She hesitated, one beat, another, a third, and then right on the fourth she let go and the arrow buried itself right in one of the pheasant's vital spots, and it is not long before the bird is no longer. The others quickly dart their head around head around to see what just happened before quickly taking off out of the clearing and themselves diving into the protection of the tall grasses. Miyako exhaled and, with a look of satisfaction on her face, stepped forward from the grass and into the clearing to claim her hard-won prize.

[Reo]

Reo looks over the groups haul and nods in approval.

"Good shot"

He works on his spent shafts, inspecting them for any sign of defect.

[Koun]

Koun moves a little ahead of his group, not being quite as stealthy as he would like and having already shown his limited abilities in organizing.

Luckily, his hunting skills are better and he manages to bag a brace of rabbits to help with supplies.

[Inga]

Inga climbed a tree to find a better vantage point. She looked down at the terrain and what would be best to shoot. The girl was about to shoot when she noted that she had forgotten to to string her bow. She strung the bow and her prey was gone. Maybe she should stick to foraging.

She looked around the tree she just climbed and there was some moss that she remembered that is for medical purposes. Inga scratched some and placed in her bag. The young woman continued to look around the tree line to check if there was bees or a honey comb.

[Nozomi]

The sounds of meat being dressed and prepped in the field could be heard and, before long, Phi would eventually be making her way back towards the others, the small boar slung over her shoulders. She had a pleased look on her face, but hunting was a normal, daily thing for her. It felt grounding to do the things that she knew and which were part of her regular life when she was about to go and do something drastically different.

She did, however, have the decency to keep quiet in her return in case anyone was trying to flush out quarry from the bushes.

[Reo]

Reo returns his arrows to the quiver, apparently satisfied with whatever inspection he had performed.

He looks around, seeing the amassed game from the hunt. He presses his lips together and nods appropriately. He pulls out a tanto and begins to work on dressing the fowl he had shot, reaching a hilt of a basic knife out to anyone who looks like they need it.

[Seidou Satone]

Satone sits with the corpses, preparing them as best she could as they are brought in. Skinning and gutting them, hanging them from a tree to drain.
