Heavenfall

Miyako looked at where Chisei nodded, and eyebrow slowly raised as she recognized the man from earlier in the day. "Ohhh... those mushrooms," she half-whispered back, turning head back to him and giving a nod in appreciation for the warning. She set the berry-wine skin down for others to take and pass around, and meanwhile after a short fumbling around in her pack she produced her own cup so she could get her fill of Koyama's offering. Looking into her cup, it appeared to be similar to the drink she had in the city at the brewery almost two weeks ago now, but it smelled different under the nose. She raised her cup above her head in an impromptu toast, brought it down to her lips, and took a long sip.

Chisei raised an eyebrow. "Oh? What sort of effect did they have?" He whispered back, leaning closer with a curious smile.

He nudged a packet of herbs towards Koyama. "Care to try these? If your drink is a strong one, they should go well."

"Do we simply eat them?" Aono asked curiously.

Miuna quietly observed the interactions between the others. She rested her head on Hanzou's shoulder, taking comfort in his presence. She waved gently to Miyako, catching her eye and signing, "Hello again!"

"They should be skish fine to eat." he hoped, as he bit into a mushroom.

"The sort where I would think cautiously about eating one, and if one can still think clearly being very careful about a second, and pray to the Fortunes that whatever state the second one leaves you in doesn't have you reaching for a third," Miyako whispered back to Chisei before sighting Miuna, using her free hand to give a small wave and sign, "Hello to you!" back at her. She took another long draw of the drink. It had a slightly odd taste to it, somewhat familiar but she couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she liked it nonetheless. She took another sip almost right after the second, wondering to herself how this drink was made and brewed compared to the berry-wines of her forest.

And also wondering why the area seemed a bit more colorful than a few minutes before...

"I... see." Chisei said, his eyebrows going up again. "Perhaps another time, then."

He mixed herbs into the berry wine, taking a deep drink. He paused.

"I don't think it's working." Chisei said, as his pupils began to rapidly dilate.

Miuna approached Miyako and Chisei cautiously, wanting to sample what everyone else was sharing. Aono's eyebrows raised but she said nothing, popping one of the mushrooms onto her mouth. "May I?" She asked Miyako, smiling shyly.

Kinsen gets in line to take a piece of what everyone was talking about and notices both Miyako and Hanzo together with Nori. She welcomes them with a nod and a wide grin. "You're so kind to bring more to share. Mushrooms and a bit of wine. It will surely help out in taking a good night's rest."

"Just remind to avoid indulgence, hmmm. We have to be wary of the surroundings." She looks to Nori, making sure that what he said was understood.

"Yes." Chisei nodded agreeably. "That's a good idea. If we're not aware of our surroundings... we... we..." Chisei turned his head slowly, surveying the room, his eyes getting wider and wider.

"I wonder." He said. "If there's really spaces between the elements that make up all of matter, why can't we see through everything?" He said, speaking and smiling softly.

"Of course! It is very good," she signed back to Miuna and offered her some. She looked back at Chisei with a thoroughly confused look on her face. "Wha... uhh... what? Space between where now?" And she held up her free hand in front of her, twisting her wrist back and forth to look at her palm and the back of her hand, wondering just what he was getting on about and why she and everyone else had five fingers and not, say, six, or eight, or ten - more was better, right?

Koyama tried Chisei's herbs out of courtesy, then chose to contribute to the conversation.

""Mebbe ainlie flies see it fur whit it's, fur thay hae mony wee een 'n' us juist two?"

Kinsen really tries to understand Koyama, but fails miserably. The dark shades that ran through Miuna's silk hair took too much of her attention. She takes one of the mushrooms as soon as others are served, but can't really focus eyes elsewhere.

"Space between everything." Chisei said. "Every thing. The I believe that little pieces of the elements are held together by Void, making up material. But then, if I try really hard, shouldn't I be able to see through things." Narrowing his eyes, he stared hard at Kinsen. Very hard.

He looked at Koyama. "Oh, I think it's working now." Chisei said, smiling gently. He hadn't expected that the herbs would effect his ability to understand speech quite to this degree. Well, something to remember for next time.

"Mebbe ye'r changing intae a fly?"

Koyama looked to Chisei's sides wondering if his wings were growing.

She looked up from her hands at Koyama and shook her head, not understanding a single word he said. But as she looked to Chisei as he spoke, he wasn't understandable either. To her ears, both men were as muffled and mumbled as could possibly be, and though they clearly stood in front of her they sounded as if they were talking to her from a thousand steps away.

"There's already too much space as it is! You need to come back, I can barely hear you from all the way over there!" she insisted, blinking her eyes a couple times as the two men, once in front of her, slowly started to get further and further away from her, their upper bodies stretching bit by bit into the horizon while their legs were rooted to the ground - quite literally as she looked down and saw a few tree roots coming out of their ankles and slowly working their way deeper into the ground beneath them.

Koyama looked to Chisei's sides wondering if his wings were growing.

Kinsen appears to be gaining the features of a squirrel. Koyama should tell someone about that.

"Awright! Kinsen needs some nuts, 'n' quick! she's famished!" Koyama stepped up to save the poor squirrel from the rapid thinning. "A'body hae nuts?!"

"My apologies." The Chisei-tree lurched closer, branches waving, leaves scattering down... or were those a few herbs, and a bit of wine? He loomed dramatically, his trunk casting a long shadow. "Is this better?" He boomed.

...

Quite unaware of his tree-like features, Chisei blinked owlishly at Koyama and Kinsen. "No." He said, shaking his head mournfully. "I'm sorry, Kinsen-sama. I have failed you."

Miuna gingerly accepted the wine and herbs, consuming them before returning to her seat. Or trying to return to her seat. Suddenly, Ko...ko...Shinjo's husband was jumping to his feet, gesturing wildly. She stared up at him, only able to make out the word 'nuts', trying to maneuver herself around him.

With considerable effort, she found her way back to her seat. She smiled at her sister and any around the camp whose eyes she caught.

Clutching Hanzou's hand, she tried to ride through what she was staring to experience. She closed her eyes. Nope, that just made it worse. She looked to him instead, trying not to panic. The wine had tasted sweet but still burned her. Her head began to ache as she leaned upon Hanzou's shoulder.

Hanzou, himself, was a bit lost. Normally, a situation like this would keep his attention. So much conversation andvpeople moving about, in addition to the beautiful woman leaning on him, should be enough to prevent his occasional lapses of focus. The mushroom, however, had distracted him from all of that. Nothing had his focus and he stared blankly at nothing.

He had barely noticed the random drink put in his hand and had no idea what it was as he gulped it down.
